Apply to be a Summer Reading Delegate!

The Washington State Library joined the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) consortium in 2004. As part of that participation Washington sends a State Representative to the annual planning conference. If your library used “Catch the Reading Bug” or “Metamorphosis” this summer, you are using materials from the collaborative.

In January of 2007, Martha Shinners from the Washington State Library presented a proposal requesting a CAYAS representative to attend the annual collaborative meeting as a delegate.

CAYAS is looking for a new delegate to serve a two year term and attend the conference with Martha and another delegate chosen by the Washington State Library.

Qualifications:

  1. The delegate will need anywhere from four to six days off to attend. The conference is held in April, usually around the WLA conference.
  2. The delegate needs to be a practicing youth services librarian that works with children or teens.
  3. Delegate will need to attend the June board meeting of CAYAS at Dumas Bay to report.

Pros

  • A great opportunity for youth service staff to participate in an exciting (if exhausting) meeting while brainstorming and making decisions on all aspects of summer reading planning.
  • An opportunity to interact with state library and youth service staff from 47 states. It’s a tremendous networking opportunity to connect on many issues in the youth services arena.
  • Better representation from Washington State.
  • Better dissemination of pertinent information within WA State.

Con

  • Representing WA at the Collaborative meeting would preclude active involvement in the WLA conference, for the period of service.
