Passing the Torch

Well, it’s official – as of the June 4th WLA Board Retreat at Dumas Bay, I am no longer the incoming chair, but instead wear the hat of the actual chair. I’m very excited about the possibilities that the upcoming year will bring.

This year’s board retreat focused quite a bit on building community within our membership, as well as a renewed focus on continuing education opportunities. WLA is your your organization and we want every member to be able to participate, whether or not you are able to attend annual conferences. We talked about the possibility of sponsoring regional meet-up activities or an online book club to increase our connections to each other.

Following the retreat, the new CAYAS Board met together for the first time. With the next conference over a year away, we are in the planning stages of a number of sessions, including School/Public Library Partnerships, Programming for At-Risk Teens, Teen Programming Showcase, Story Time Showcase and more. If you’ve got any ideas for things you’d like to see at WLA/PNLA in Victoria next year, please let us know – we’re hoping that the conference will be irresistible to you. We are also planning to offer a stand-alone workshop on Booktalking in Issaquah and Yakima in October, so stay-tuned for more information.
